Incubation lasts 27-31days where the mother sits on the egg and keeps it warm.

A chick haches from it's egg after 24 to 31 days of being in its egg. When they are born their legs are swollen but it goes down in two days. The baby chick learns to swim before it can leave its nest. From birth they have grey eyes but after a year their eyes change to yellow. A fledge (a young bird) grows until it is 1-2 years old. The full wing span is between 35-56 inches
